Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument (A five minute drive; enroute to Cripple Creek, if you wish. We recommend a visit. Take the tour, stop in the bookstore.)

Cripple Creek (A 20 minute drive, well worth the trip. Good views enroute. Cripple Creek is in a caldera. You pass a llama ranch about half way there. We recommend the museum, railroad, Molly Kathleen gold mine. Casinos? A personal preference. The Cripple Creek Café is a very nice place for lunch, and it’s not inside a casino.)

Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center (A 20 minute drive to Woodland Park. An excellent dinosaur museum.)

Breckenridge (a 1.5 hour drive. You drive over a high mountain pass. It’s a safe drive, and the views are stunning. Breckenridge is an international ski resort, and is a Victorian town. Visit, walk around, shop a little, have lunch. Well worth the trip. The views from Pinecone Lodge to Breckenridge are classic Rocky Mountain views. You will probably pass a buffalo herd enroute. Stay at Pinecone Lodge when you ski Breckenridge so you don't have to pay the high lodging rates at the ski resort.)
